Unbelievable!!!
This is an unbelievable movie. I saw it at the IMAX theater and was blown away and now the DVD is almost as good. I want to make a couple of things clear, however. You people who are dogging this DVD for not being widescreen need to understand that the actual IMAX format is not widescreen. It is 4:3, not 16:9. It is IMAX for a reason. This movie and other IMAX movies WILL not and SHOULD not be shown in widescreen format, because that is not the original IMAX format. You people should go see an IMAX movie and notice the square shaped picture and not the rectangle that normal movies are shown. Get a clue. Another thing, making a 3-D DVD is not as simple as throwing in a pair of paper glasses. You must have special equipment including a 3-D projector and special electronic glasses. Even then it will not be the quality of IMAX. Back to the DVD itself. You will not be dissapointed. Unbelievable picture and sound quality makes for the ultimate DVD experience. You will love this...

A good, but somewhat limited, homage to the sport
I come from the heart of NASCAR country, and I have a lot of race memories going back a good quarter of a century now. I love racing, but I really haven't been able to watch it since that black day when Dale Earnhardt lost his life at Daytona; I doubt I'll ever be able to watch another Daytona 500 as long as I live. Still, I'd love to get past the loss of the Man in Black and make NASCAR a part of my Sunday rituals once again. That's the main reason I decided to watch NASCAR: The IMAX Experience. Of course, I have only seen it in the privacy of my own home, so I can't speak to the actual IMAX theatre experience. It's a good show, but I guess I was just expecting a little bit more out of it.The main limitation of the film is its length; you can only say so much about the rich history of NASCAR in forty-eight minutes. There's a decent look at the origins of the sport, but most of the historical attention is placed on a select few superstars of years past. The...

Product Description

Dylan Hargreave thinks I'm an actress paid to pose as his girlfriend at a North Carolina society wedding. How did this happen to me, of all people? Kendall Clarke, award-winning actuary, the veritable shining star of number crunchers who, just hours ago, learned her responsible fiance (sorry, ex-fiance) called off our wedding because he'd gotten one of my colleagues pregnant. What are the odds?

Don't tell me you've never heard of Dylan Hargreave. Celebrity NASCAR driver? People magazine's Sexiest Man of the Year? Those eyes. That smile...

Forget sensible! I've assessed the risk...and I'm taking it! I usually keep the brakes on, but as of now I'm taking a vacation. From me.

very enjoyable and entertaining
Yes, I only read it because it was offered free thru my kindle. That confession out of the way I have to also confess how much I enjoyed reading this. I have no interest in Nascar, so at first I considered not reading it, but it grabbed me. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading this. I like sexiness as a general rule, and this had almost no mention of sex. I was thoroughly entertained. So if you enjoy light reading on occasion then go for this. I have no criticisms or downsides, just fun reading. Now I might read some other Nascar related books. Good job whoever it was to offer this for free, you got a new reader for this kind of book.

Satisfying read
I was surprised by how much I liked this book.Kendal Clarke has had one hell of a bad day. On what was supposed to be the best night of her life, she is dumped and eventually locked out of her hotel room half-dressed. Dylan Hargreave mistakes her for the actress he's hired to play his girlfriend for the night. This handsome - "sexiest man of the year" - but spoiled Nascar driver needs to be taken down a peg and meet a down-to-earth girl. One night to escape their separate realities turns into a great friendship that lasts much longer. There are so many books out there that revolve around mistaken identity. 'Speed Dating' does not. For the majority of the book, hero and heroine call each other by the RIGHT name. The story flowed well and it moved quick enough so that I did not feel the need to skim between dialogues. My only problem - and the reason I did not give it 5 stars - was one part of the book. Towards the end there is a section I truly hated...

Gain a new apprecation for stock car racing's early days
Two years ago I'd never been to a race. Now I've attended four and watch every weekend. Picked this book up in order to feed my now voracious appetite for all things racing. Guess what...it filled me in on the less well-known formative years of stock car racing. For those who think the France family created stock car racing and NASCAR as well and are unwilling to bend from that view, then this book will likely upset them. On the other hand, if you're open-minded and willing to question the so-called accepted theory of NASCAR's creation being soley by Big Bill and want to know more about the shine runners who helped make the sport popular, then you'll find this book immensely entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the book, and felt educated, enlightened, and entertained all at the same time.

Amazing Details
Being a novice to Nascar I have been reading everything I can get my hands. This book, "Driving with the Devil" is "straight up". It gives so much more insight to the beginnings of Nascar than any other book I have read. Some things I didn't even know & some things surprised me, it put together pieces of my own heritage. Amazing book, I recommend it highly.

Absolutely intriguing and entertaining book!
What mystifies me is that I am not a racing fan in the least but this book seemed to call to me from the library shelf. As a new resident of Georgia, coming from NY, I felt that I needed to do the "when in Rome..." thing and soldier through the book. No need to labor, as it had me in its grip from the first page. It answered all my questions about all things southern, with a vivid description of life here in the last century as well as an unbelievably human story of the men who made moonshine and how their driving skills translated well into car racing at the outset of the stock car boom. It also introduced me to a unique man, a former master bootlegger named Raymond Parks, who, while not generally a race car driver, was as responsible as anyone for NASCAR being in existence today. His deep pockets kept many drivers racing and his mechanic, a genius named Red Vogt, actually came up with the name NASCAR. That Bill France used legal maneuvering to claim the NASCAR brand for himself and...

Product Description

“Moonshiners put more time, energy, thought, and love into their cars than any racer ever will. Lose on the track and you go home. Lose with a load of whiskey and you go to jail.” —Junior Johnson, NASCAR legend and one-time whiskey runner

Today’s NASCAR is a family sport with 75 million loyal fans, which is growing bigger and more mainstream by the day. Part Disney, part Vegas, part Barnum & Bailey, NASCAR is also a multibillion-dollar business and a cultural phenomenon that transcends geography, class, and gender. But dark secrets lurk in NASCAR’s past.

Driving with the Devil uncovers for the first time the true story behind NASCAR’s distant, moonshine-fueled origins and paints a rich portrait of the colorful men who created it. Long before the sport of stock-car racing even existed, young men in the rural, Depression-wracked South had figured out that cars and speed were tickets to a better life. With few options beyond the farm or factory, the best chance of escape was running moonshine. Bootlegging offered speed, adventure, and wads of cash—if the drivers survived. Driving with the Devil is the story of bootleggers whose empires grew during Prohibition and continued to thrive well after Repeal, and of drivers who thundered down dusty back roads with moonshine deliveries, deftly outrunning federal agents. The car of choice was the Ford V-8, the hottest car of the 1930s, and ace mechanics tinkered with them until they could fly across mountain roads at 100 miles an hour.

After fighting in World War II, moonshiners transferred their skills to the rough, red-dirt racetracks of Dixie, and a national sport was born. In this dynamic era (1930s and ’40s), three men with a passion for Ford V-8s—convicted criminal Ray Parks, foul-mouthed mechanic Red Vogt, and crippled war veteran Red Byron, NASCAR’s first champion—emerged as the first stock car “team.” Theirs is the violent, poignant story of how moonshine and fast cars merged to create a new sport for the South to call its own.

Driving with the Devil is a fascinating look at the well-hidden historical connection between whiskey running and stock-car racing. NASCAR histories will tell you who led every lap of every race since the first official race in 1948. Driving with the Devil goes deeper to bring you the excitement, passion, crime, and death-defying feats of the wild, early days that NASCAR has carefully hidden from public view. In the tradition of Laura Hillenbrand’s Seabiscuit, this tale not only reveals a bygone era of a beloved sport, but also the character of the country at a moment in time.

The science behind the speed
This is an excellent book about how NASCAR race cars are engineered to perform like they do. The author is a college Physics professor and the book is written to explain with basic scientific terms and knowledge that the average reader can understand written in a very interesting manner. The areas discussed include aerodynamics, materials, engines, fuels, tires, shocks, drivetrain and others, and the author spent time with Elliott Sadler and the 19 team both at the shop and the track to help the NASCAR fan understand how things work like they do. I am a long time fan and also an engineer and there was a lot of info that I can use when I give fans pit road and garage tours at Michigan Intl Speedway. This book will help me explain things to the fans in a easy way. This would also be a great book for a high school aged race car enthusiast/budding engineer to help them understand how school subjects like Physics can have exciting real world applications. I was a big...

The Racing of Automobiles - From Inside Out
I'm not a NASCAR fan by any stretch of the imagination. But this book's title intrigued me. Browsing through it and seeing all the interesting diagrams convinced me that I should buy it and read it. I did and I was not disappointed. The author, a physicist, is a gifted expositor of scientific principles at a level ideal for the general reader. She explains, using many useful analogies (and no mathematics), the finer points involved in building an automobile suitable for racing the NASCAR circuits. The book could just as easily have been entitled "The Science of NASCAR" since sciences other than physics are also involved and explained, e.g., chemistry, metallurgy, aerodynamics, engineering, biology, etc. In addition to the science, the author gives a fascinating overview of some of the dedicated people who are involved in building and racing a potentially winning car as they do their work before, during and after a race. The writing style is clear, authoritative, very accessible and...

Don't wait for the movie
This book would translate nicely into a Discovery Channel series. You know, high-interest, science-to-the-masses kind of stuff. Give it a year; it's going to happen! I am a fan of "The Physics Of.." books, and some disappoint: they can be so thorough [read hyper-mathematic] as to resemble homework; or they can be so simplified they read like a children's book. Most land somewhere in between. Take, for instance,Adair's book on the Physics of Baseball: it's fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone. It contains more mathematics than the average Joe (or Jane) is equipped to handle. But this book, The Physics of NASCAR, follows the Goldilocks Principle: it's just right. Not too pithy, not too watered down. High interest, easy access, entertaining insights. If you like popular science, you'll enjoy this book. Personally, I love the way the author pulls in characters from the NASCAR family. It gives the book personality! She does a great job with the science as well. There were...

Product Description

Every NASCAR fan – at one time or another – asks the same question: Why isn’t my favorite driver winning? This is your chance to discover how much more there is to NASCAR than “Go fast, turn left and don’t crash.” If you’ve ever wondered why racecars don’t have mufflers, how “bump drafting” works, or what in the world “Let’s go up a pound on the right rear and add half a round of wedge” means, The Physics of NASCAR is for you.

In this fast-paced investigation into the adrenaline-pumping world of NASCAR, a physicist with a passion uncovers what happens when the rubber hits the road and 800- horsepower vehicles compete at 190 miles per hour only inches from one another.

Diandra Leslie-Pelecky reveals how and why drivers trust the engineering and science their teams literally build around them not only to get them across the finish line in first place, but also to keep them alive. Professor Leslie-Pelecky is a physicist in love with the sport’s beauty and power and is uniquely qualified to explain exactly how physics translates into winning races.

Based on the author’s extensive access to race shops, pit crews, crew chiefs and mechanics, this book traces the life cycle of a race car from behind the scenes at top race shops to the track. The Physics of NASCAR takes readers right into the ultra competitive world of NASCAR, from the champion driver’s hot seat behind the detachable steering wheel to the New Zealander nicknamed Kiwi in charge of shocks for the No. 19 car.

Diandra Leslie-Pelecky tells her story in terms anyone who drives a car--and maybe occasionally looks under the hood--can understand. How do drivers walk away from serious crashes? How can two cars travel faster together than either car can on its own? How do you dress for a 1800°F gasoline fire? In simple yet detailed, high-octane prose, this is the ultimate thrill ride for armchair speed demons, auto science buffs, and NASCAR fans at every level of interest.

Readers, start your engines.

Denette ended up buying a whole new NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team, and he’. Denette, a rabid auto racing fan from Fredericksburg, Va. , imagined buying a new RV and traveling to every NASCAR track in the country. Before winning the lottery, Denette attended NASCAR races within a five- to six-hour drive, including Charlotte, Bristol and Richmond. s everybody in NASCAR’. It takes about $3 million a year to fully fund a trucks team, and Denette eventually wants to own a Sprint Cup team, which takes at least $20 million to be competitive.

That was still more than enough to start a truck team on a part-time basis with former Nationwide Series regular Hermie Sadler behind the wheel, before Sadler took over day-to-day operations of Joe Denette Motorsports last year. At the races, I talk to all the guys, put on my headphones and listen in during the race, try to hype them up, and that’. first full season in the series, Jason White finished 15th in the standings, while a second truck driven on a part-time basis by Elliott Sadler won the pole at Bristol and finished seventh in the season finale at Homestead, two spots ahead of... s a proven champion, knows the tracks, is somebody I feel is going to win races and have a legitimate chance at winning championships. 6 million jackpot, Denette chose a lump-sum payment of $46 million, which after taxes shrunk to almost $33 million. d buy $23 in tickets,”. t buy a trophy ….

People run from pillar to post for purchasing Ryder Cup tickets and NASCAR tickets on the seasons. Many people tie up with many ticketing master companies and firms that assure to provide you above mentioned tickets on-time. To overcome from all such things, opt for the online e-ticketing stores provided by the ticket broker firms.

Most people would prefer something better than that, particularly if they were collecting memorabilia, and while a monogrammed ball hat is good, it would be a lot better to have an authentic NASCAR hat than any old hat with a logo or name printed... For many, NASCAR hats and caps are fascinating items, both for collecting and for everyday wear, and are just two of the reasons for the craze for buying NASCAR gear and collectibles. As previously mentioned, some fans love to collect die cast NASCAR cars that represent some of the great stock cars driven over the years, from Cup series to the Daytona. Most NASCAR gear on sale is new, with car manufacturers and models printed or embroidered on it, but you occasionally come across something genuine autographed by the driver. Those that collect NASCAR hats and other memorabilia naturally prefer to get their hands on any gear or mementoes from these days onwards, and while they sometimes appear in yard and garage sales, the genuine articles are more likely to be found... There are many more where that came from, and you can find a wide range of NASCAR gear online, including monogrammed jackets and ball caps. You can often find pretty good deals using online auction sites, and as this page was written there was an authentic NASCAR hat on sale for $129.
