Wonderful Starter
LATEST REMARKS:A couple of times I had milk that was getting a little old so I scalded it first by bringing it to 185º and holding it there 5 minutes. It's definitely a nuisance but I noticed both times that the yogurt set up much firmer.I am still incubating in a cooler and am happy with the system. I usually incubate for 8 hours overnight and no longer add hot water halfway through. Always looking for the easiest way. It turns out fine every time. Still love the taste and convenience of this starter. Still just using half the recommended amount of starter.My batch of yogurt is actually 5 and a half cups rather than a quart. I use great old heavy glass jars similar to big peanut butter jars. I've never bothered to measure it before, till another reviewer made an issue of the cost effectiveness of making homemade yogurt. So the cost per "quart" for me is even less than the 97¢ plus electricity I mentioned in my comments to "Are You Kidding?"...

Not bad, but not the best
First, I am quite surprised at how expensive this product is on Amazon; my local health food store (with a notoriously high mark-up on products) sells it for about 3.59/box. Otherwise it is a good product; definitely more potent than store-bought yogurt as a starter, but I've actually had much better results using my probiotic capsules that I use as a dietary supplement. Homemade is Best
There are a lot of inexpensive yogurts in the stores but I feel I want to make my own for many reasons. It takes a little planning because the yogurt maker (also a Euro-Cuisine) needs 7 to 8 hours and I need to bring the milk up to proper temperature before adding the culture - but the end product is worth it. As soon as I open a jar of the finished product I first smell it - you don't get that smell from the store brands. This particular starter makes a 'thicker' variety like Greek yogurt and when you dip your spoon into it you see it. Then the taste - there is a tang that I've never tasted in a store brand. Most of the time I don't get around to adding any honey and grated lemon to it (my favorite) because if I start eating I can't stop. The instructions are on the back of the packets and are easy to follow. I like using whole organic milk from a local dairy so my experience is based on that - but I'm sure you get good results from low fat milk. And I have also had success...

Creamy, rich flavor, excellent!
I've been making my own yogurt for quite a while now, but was pleasantly surprised when I tried this starter. So far, it's the best I've tried, and I've tried quite a few. My yogurt sets much more quickly, and has a nice creamy texture instead of the clumping I find with some other starters. I've re-cultured five generations so far, and it's holding up wonderfully. Makes a nice yogurt, as promised
I have been making my own yogurt for a couple of years now and I needed a new starter. I don't have any other brand to compare to, as my previous starters were finished yogurt from another batch. I decided to start each Spring off with a fresh starter, so I bought this product and it performed nicely. I reserve some from each batch to start the next batch and that works just fine too.

Best yogurt ever
Yogurt made with this starter and organic whole milk is simply the best I have ever tasted. It does not have the thin, sour taste that most of the single-culture starters produce. The taste is instead smooth and full-bodied. It is also thicker than most when a little dry milk is added. The process takes a bit longer, since the milk must be heated to 180 degrees, then cooled to 75. The cooling requires an ice-water bath, or the temperature would never get that low in our kitchen. After 12 hours in the Yogourmet Multi, which starts at room temperature and very gradually increases to 112 degrees, the yogurt is perfect every time. It is so good that it makes a good dessert all by itself, and is even better mixed with fruit. Combined with mayonnaise, it makes a fine potato or carrot-raisin salad. Smoothies are really smooth. Give it a try in your favorite recipe. You will love it!

yogurt starter
We eat yogurt regularly and I have found the yogourmet brand to be very reliable,resulting in a good food product. This particular item has additional probiotics so I got some of this to add to the regulart yogurt starter from yogourmet. I used one packet of this, one packet of the regular as well as one packet of another brand that I bought on Amazon (some little green packets) and made up a new batch of yogurt. I used a little over two quarts of fresh farm milk, added a packet of each of the above mentioned starters, along with a little powdered milk to make a little thicker product (this is optional) and the resulting yogurt was so delicious and a good consistency! I take out a sample and put it in the freezer and use it for the next batch. This way I don't use up my packets of starter very fast. They keep indefinitely in the freezer. The only time I use a new packet from the box is if for some reason my starter that I take out of each new batch starts to develop an off...

Delicious yogurt!
This starter makes delicious yogurt. I like to use it with whole milk. You must first heat the milk up to at least 180 degrees and then cool it to 73-77 degrees. As the previous reviewer stated, you must use an icewater bath to cool the milk down. This works wonderfully. I let my yogurt incubate 15 hours and it is extremely thick and delicious! It has a bit of a tart taste, which is very yummy. I alternate using this yogurt with the Yogourmet freeze-dried yogurt for variety. I eat yogurt every single day and have been using Yogourmet starters for a couple of years now. I won't use any other brand as I've tried several and the ones from Yogourmet are the best.

GREAT yogurt
I recently bought an Euro Cuisine yogurt maker and resumed making my own yogurt. There is no comparison - homemade is MUCH better. Starter matters. I tried Dannon plain yogurt as my starter. It worked, but the yogurt wasn't nearly as good. The Euro Cuisine yogurt starter tastes much better, and after the first batch, it "brews" up in only three hours. I think the bacteria are really lively, which is probably a bonus for our gut, too.

Good yogurt.
I finally tried it out. I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews. I used 5 grams Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Starter (one packet, only) and 32 oz. whole milk following the directions on the back of the Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Starter package. I ran the Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker for 7 hours to incubate the yogurt. I think this is the best tasting yogurt I have ever had.

I tried this culture and liked it a lot. When I ran out, I went to the health food store thinking culture was culture. WRONG!! I am back again, and getting the good stuff.This makes a yougurt that has the same nice bite as sour cream. I make it with 1% milk and only use 4 cups of milk and a slightly heaping 1/2 t of culture (this is about half the package as the package makes 2 liters).This culture makes a soother yogurt than the other stuff. It makes your mouth water and alleviates the need for sugar. No it is not sweet, but the "bite" is wonderful.

Makes good yogurt
I have used this starter six times and each batch was great. I only wish we could buy it for less money, maybe in a jar or bottle and get it out with a teaspoon. But I guess the delicate nature of the culture requires it to be packaged in these little individual envelopes.

The Best~
I used to make my own yogurt years ago with this yogurt starter ~ it makes a smooth, creamy, non-tart yogurt that everyone loves. It's better tasting than ice cream - no kidding. It's a rich, wonderful, delicious texture and I have been missing it. I just ordered another yogurt maker and will be placing an order for this starter as soon as I can afford to.If you are near a Whole Foods, they carry this yogurt starter, that is where I always bought mine. How I eat my yogurt is: I ONLY make plain yogurt and will put 1 spoon of jam or honey on top...that's it. Enjoy good health ~xox--- I only use whole milk for my yogurt...will even add some heavy whipping cream to it. I believe in eating the good fats - they keep you full, taste so much better, keep your taste-buds satisfied, and give you that wonderful mouth-feel while you're eating. Delicious Yogurt!!
I've never made yogurt before because I always thought it would be too hard and really not taste very good, especially if it was healthy. Was I ever wrong!   I make my yogurt non fat and add 1/4 c of non fat dry milk powder to each quart of milk and2@ T of yogurt starter per quart of milk. I like thick, Greek-style yogurt and I don't want to pay extra for it. I fill it up with full-fat yogurt (commercial, but homemade would work just as well), put it in the refrigerator, and hours later have Greek yogurt and a fair bit of whey.    You can salt the yogurt after it has drained for 24 hours, squeezing out as much water as possible and make yogurt cheese that way too, by forming it under a weight in the fridge for a day. Without all of the additives and preservatives and with a native culture, it should act much the same way a sourdough starter does. It may get more sour, but homemade yogurt shouldn't spoil in the same way commercial yogurt can. Greek yogurt is just like any other kind of yogurt, just more concentrated. In the past, I have added a couple of packets of gelatin (boiled shortly in a little water and then stirred into the hot milk) to my half-gallon of milk, and it really did the trick to thicken the yogurt. My yogurt-making point of view is a little more purist, I don't want to add powdered milk or gelatin/agar.  This denatures whey proteins, which allows them to join in the thickening process- effectively increasing the amount of protein that is available to thicken the yogurt. The second factor I have found to be important is the choice of culture:  some store-bought yogurts (if that is what you're using for culture) work much better than others.  I like one called Sidehill farms, which lists l. paracasei (as opposed to l. casei) as one of its cultures- it makes a huge difference in the texture of the yogurt.
